Friends on the roof terrace after watching the fiesta fireworks. Posted by Picasa

Fiesta, Fiesta, Fiesta....Relleu

Well it has all been happening here in Relleu. August saw us kick off with our 5 day Fiesta which was truly exhausting for anyone who came and partied hard for the whole 5 days. I tried my best to keep up with the locals but I have to admit I just don't have the staying power that these guys have!!!

The first day (Friday) started off with free grilled Sardines and Beer for the whole community in the village square. The day continued with music, processions and drinking. The best part was following the band up to the church to collect the statue of Sant Albert, dancing down through the village and eventually (after stopping for many more drinks in the local penya's) arriving at the Church in the square. What an amazing experience! I had visitors and friends who had not experienced a fiesta in Relleu before and they were astounded that we went into the village with drinks in our hands and the band playing as loud as they could!

Saturday was the giant paella up by the town hall. Free paella and beer for all!! Never in England would this happen! The festivities went on late into the night, well actually till 6am. The live band does not even start until 1am and goes till 6am. Form those of us that live in the village, its rather difficult to get a good nights sleep, so you just have to join in. Well that's my excuse anyway!

Sunday is a more religious day but that didn't stop the live band playing until 6am again. There was a beautiful procession up to the church on the hill, then fireworks and fire crackers for over an hour.

Monday was the big village paella competition. This event is taken very seriously by the local ladies who compete to make the very best paella Spain has to offer. My friend Vincent has won on previous year but this year he was beaten by his friend and neighbor.

Tuesday is the last day some say...Thank god..Some sleep! The finally of the day is a huge fire tracker which goes the whole length and breadth of the village and comes to it crescendo in the village square. I actually wondered if my ears would ever be the same again!!!

Well, you would of thought its all over, however, I have just been handed the program's for august and I now realise that fiesta actually lasts the whole month. We have bands every few days, processions, children activities and more food and drink.

I had better leave it there, as I think I am needed at the local bar for a chilled glass of vino blanco!

Anyone, interested in the life and what happens here in relleu, Please contact me at any time via e-mail or take a look directly on our web site and follow the contact page.

Relleu Village House for Sale

This huge property used to be the old village schoolhouse, it has unlimited potential for a range of uses. The property needs some reforming, however, the reform depends on the type of use. The home spans over 4 floors, starting on the ground floor, with a large entrance lounge following onto a kitchen area that leads out to a courtyard and cave. The ground floor has been partially reformed and has marble flooring. The large front porch overlooks the orange grove. The second floor has a bathroom and 4 bedrooms, the 3rd floor has a bathroom, kitted kitchen and 3 further bedrooms. The 4th floor has 2 large roof terraces overlooking the village. This property is unique as it has a garden that is large enough for a pool.

The property has the possibility to be 3 separate apartments, a bed and breakfast, a restaurant/bar with large living accommodation, a two storey home with a separate self contained apartment or just one large family home! This is an ideal opportunity for anyone wanting to live in Spain yet still earn a good living.
